New Catalog Release – Between Memory and Metamorphosis
The Art Book of Oscar Luis Martínez Oscar Luis Martínez’s newly released art book, Between Memory and Metamorphosis, is more than a catalog—it is a visual archive of cultural continuity, transformation, and diasporic identity. Spanning five decades of artistic production, the volume presents his monumental oil paintings in a refined, museum-quality format that honors both scale and symbolism.
Designed as a collectible object in its own right, the book documents Martínez’s evolving visual language—where disciplined structure meets spiritual resonance. Through richly reproduced works and curatorial reflection, the publication traces themes of migration, ancestral memory, ritual, and becoming. Each page affirms his position as a painter whose practice bridges Puerto Rico and Chicago, the personal and the collective, the scientific and the sacred.
The book has already begun to open meaningful institutional dialogue. Martínez recently met with the curator of the Museo de Arte de Ponce to personally gift a copy, initiating conversations about his work within one of Puerto Rico’s most respected cultural institutions. He also presented the publication to Néstor Murray-Irizarry, Director of Casa Paoli in Ponce, further strengthening his engagement with Puerto Rico’s artistic community.
As a direct result of this renewed presence on the island, Martínez has received an invitation to exhibit at the Ponce Cultural Center in October 2026—an important milestone that underscores the growing institutional recognition of his work.
The publication was partially funded by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, reflecting public investment in Martínez’s sustained cultural contributions and the significance of his practice within both local and international contexts.
Between Memory and Metamorphosis stands as both testament and tool: a refined presentation of a mature body of work, and a bridge connecting collectors, curators, and cultural institutions to an artist whose vision continues to expand across geographies. For collectors, the book offers insight into the depth and continuity of Martínez’s practice—an enduring body of work rooted in history and alive in the present.
New Painting
I have recently completed a large-scale canvas that continues my exploration of identity, spirituality, and ancestral memory. The work features a powerful female figure whose presence merges mythological symbolism with natural forces, carrying forward themes of resilience and transformation that define my practice.
Thank you to the community of supporters, curators, and collectors who continue to follow my journey and help share my work with a wider audience.
Borikén: Las Raíces de Retorno – Semilla inmortal (2025), Oil on Canvas, 64 × 100 in.
The Borikén series is a journey through memory, ancestry, and spirit. Each work speaks to the living connection between the island and its people—the roots that hold, the spirits that guide, and the skies that dream beyond time. This final piece is both culmination and offering: the embodiment of Borikén as Mother, rooted in the earth yet reaching into the cosmos. Her body becomes tree and soil, veins becoming roots, carrying the wisdom of ancestors. The ethereal figure beside her suggests transcendence—the soul’s journey beyond matter, the eternal echo of Taíno, Spanish, and African memory. Here, Borikén does not end. She transforms.
